$2.5 million up for grabs for Utah tech companies
(Deseret News- By, Art Raymond ) SALT LAKE CITY— Utah tech startups and early-stage technology businesses have until March 29 to join the competition for a slice of $2.5 million in grant money from the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative through its Technology Accelerator Program.
The TAP funding is aimed at giving Utah for-profit businesses a leg up in their pursuit of technological developments and is specifically targeted to sectors including automation/robotics, aerospace, advanced materials, big data, energy/clean technology and life sciences. Work eligible for the grants includes research and development, proof of concept, prototype development and product validation. While intended primarily for new and early-stage businesses, mature companies working on new technologies or products may also apply.

USTAR was formed in 2006 by the Utah Legislature and governor’s office and tasked with diversifying the state’s economy through focused development of scientific and technological innovation. USTAR works with Utah private businesses, entrepreneurs and university researchers to help commercialize their ideas and products.
